Types of Rhinoplasty
Primary Rhinoplasty
This is the most common form of rhinoplasty, performed on patients who have never had nose surgery before. Primary rhinoplasty can address cosmetic concerns—like a dorsal hump, wide bridge, or bulbous tip—as well as functional issues such as a deviated septum or breathing difficulties. The goal is to improve both appearance and nasal function while maintaining natural balance with your other facial features.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Ethnic rhinoplasty enhances the shape and balance of the nose while preserving your unique cultural features. This tailored approach respects the natural characteristics of different ethnicities, including African, Asian, Hispanic, and Middle Eastern backgrounds. Drs. Wachal & Kleiman focus on subtle refinement—such as smoothing the bridge, defining the tip, or improving structure—to create a natural, harmonious result that maintains your distinctive identity.
Preservation Rhinoplasty
Preservation rhinoplasty is an advanced technique that focuses on reshaping the nose while maintaining as much of the natural structure as possible. Instead of removing large portions of bone and cartilage, this approach works beneath the surface to reposition and refine the existing framework. It is especially effective for smoothing a dorsal hump while preserving the integrity of the nasal bridge. The result is a softer, more natural look with reduced swelling, faster recovery, and long-lasting structural support.
Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty uses specialized piezoelectric instruments to precisely sculpt the nasal bones without damaging surrounding soft tissue. This modern technique allows for greater control and accuracy when reshaping the bridge, reducing trauma compared to traditional methods. Patients often experience less bruising and swelling, along with a smoother healing process. Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is ideal for those seeking refined contouring and enhanced precision while achieving natural, balanced results.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty isn’t just about changing how your nose looks—it’s about helping you feel more confident in how you present yourself. Whether you're bothered by a bump, asymmetry, or breathing difficulties, this procedure may be the key to unlocking greater comfort and self-assurance. At Anne Arundel Facial Plastic Surgery, we take the time to understand your concerns and goals so we can recommend the best approach tailored to your unique features.
- Unhappy with nose shape due to bumps, width, asymmetry, or drooping tip
- Difficulty breathing from structural issues like a deviated septum
- Looking to correct the results of a previous rhinoplasty or injury
- Stable facial growth, typically over the age of 16
- Realistic expectations and a desire for long-lasting results
