Upper Eyelid Surgery

Introduction to Upper Eyelid Surgery

Over time, the skin around the eyes can lose elasticity, leading to drooping upper lids, puffiness, or a tired expression that does not reflect how you actually feel. Makeup and skincare products may help for a while, but when the heaviness becomes more pronounced, many people start to feel self-conscious.

At Anne Arundel Facial Plastic Surgery in Annapolis and Severna Park, Maryland, Dr. Brandon Wachal and Dr. Lee Kleiman specialize in upper eyelid procedures that rejuvenate the face with precision and artistry. With advanced training and a focus on natural-looking outcomes, they perform upper eyelid surgery to help patients appear more awake and vibrant without altering the character of their eyes.

What is Upper Eyelid Surgery?

Upper eyelid surgery involves the careful removal or repositioning of excess skin, fat, and muscle that can weigh down the eyelids. This procedure is tailored to enhance definition in the natural crease of the eyelid, reduce eyelid heaviness, and open the eyes to make them appear brighter and more alert. The goal is not to alter your appearance, but to refresh it in a way that appears effortless and natural.

Who Are the Best Candidates For Upper Eyelid Surgery?

Ideal candidates are those who are starting to notice some sagging skin, puffiness, or heaviness in the upper eyelids. Clients often choose our upper eyelid procedure in their forties and older; however, younger patients with inherited eyelid concerns may also benefit.

During your consultation, Dr. Wachal or Dr. Kleiman will evaluate your eyelids, skin elasticity, and overall facial structure to determine if upper eyelid surgery is the right choice for you.

What Are the Benefits of an Upper Eyelid Surgery?

Our Maryland patients often find that the results go beyond cosmetic improvement. This procedure can also help restore comfort and confidence in both social and professional settings. Some of the most common benefits include:

  • A more defined eyelid crease that restores youthful contour
  • Eyes that appear larger and brighter
  • Reduction in sagging skin that can obstruct vision
  • A smoother eyelid surface that enhances facial balance
  • Long-lasting results that maintain a natural appearance for years

What’s the First Step?

Your Upper Eyelid Surgery Journey with Dr. Wachal

Reaching out to Anne Arundel Facial Plastic Surgery is the best way to begin. During your initial visit to one of our Maryland offices, Dr. Brandon Wachal or Dr. Lee Kleiman will listen closely to your concerns, evaluate the condition of your eyelids, and learn about your personal goals. This time is used to create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you, with attention to both aesthetics and function.

You will also have the chance to ask our surgeons any questions and learn about what to expect from the surgery and recovery process.

What to Expect on the Day of Upper Eyelid Surgery

You can expect your upper eyelid surgery to take approximately one to two hours. It will be performed using either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

One of our surgeons will make incisions in the natural crease of the eyelid. Through these incisions, excess skin is removed, muscles may be tightened, and fat may be carefully adjusted to create a smoother contour. Once done, your incisions are closed with fine sutures designed to heal with minimal visibility.

After a brief recovery period, you will return home the same day.
